Review

With WavePad you can create professional recordings and edit audio easily. It is a complete sound editor with many options and applications. You can cut, copy, and paste recordings or parts of them, and also add some effects such as echo, amplification and noise reduction.

WavePad works with WAV or MP3 files but it also supports other formats: VOX, GSM, WMA, RA, AU, AIF, FLAC, and OGG. It also supports batch processing of up to 32,000 files. Also you can find tools such as spectral analysis, sound normalization, and some more. Better yet, it rips audio CDs in ultra fast mode and even creates ringtones.

Unlike other NCH programs, WavePad is free; it never expires, but if you need professional sound effects and advanced features, an upgrade to the Master Edition will be needed.

In the new 2.0 version developers have added the following sound effects: Crossfading, Equalization, Timeline. They have also enhanced reverb and volume indicator, and fixed several issues like incorrect display of the 2nd channel, tags, zoom, and some others.
Advantages
  • User friendly.
  • Free.
  • Accepts multiple audio formats.
  • Multiple channels.
  • Batch conversion.
  • Rips CDs.
Disadvantages
  • None.

I purchased this product in July of 2008. Website & activation process were *very* confusing but I got through it after a determined hour. Redownloaded from the website 1 Jan 2009 to reinstall on a new computer. Discovered they had snuck the version number up by a fractional decimal point to correct some bugs in the software AND that you must repurchase the software all over again for any new versioning, including their fixing their own bugs. To force you to do this, they won't even supply on their website the original point release you purchased. Purchasing documentation does NOT make it clear that you purchased only a particular fractional point release and are not entitled to bug fixes. Summary: avoid. They are nickle and dime artists. They are not a vendor you can rely on and have a relationship with. They feel more like a bait and switch operation.
